The first day I returned to yard after the CZU fire burned my home I heard the redwoods in my front yard audibly lamenting, “It’s all gone. It’s all gone. The little grandchildren used to play in the yard, it’s all gone. They used to dance in the yard, it’s all gone. It’s all gone.”

I was born in Long Beach California. Grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from UCLA in Westwood, Southern California, and moved with Jim to a charming mountain village in the foothills above Pasadena, Glendale, California. The Los Angeles, So. California fires that are still burning are destroying the homeland of my childhood. My son John was visiting last week and showed me online pictures of the fire. We searched to find the home he grew up in at the edge of the Angeles Forrest. Amazing to be able to actually see our home. The new owners had added solar panels and a swimming pool and trees in the yard. The fire just broke out in Altadena, but fortunately our La Canada home was still safe. I spent time connecting with the Angels of the land and house, to send them comfort and tell them what was going on.
In my book LIVING WITH THE SPIRITS OF THE LAND, I relate the story of meeting the house and yard angels the day we moved from La Canada to San Luis Obispo:
The day we moved from La Canada, as the moving van pulled out of the driveway, Jim realized that the key to the car was in the desk drawer—on the van. The phone rang. It was my friend Patricia who said, “What is going on? The elementals of your land and the angels of the mountain are very upset. Something is happening and they don’t understand.” When I told her we were moving, she suggested, “Talk to them, tell them what is going on. Release them from your service and prepare them for the next owners.” We had a sweet conversation with the elementals, filled with gratitude, love, and release. Some didn’t want to part from the family and asked to come with us; of course I said yes. Thirty years later I returned to that house we had designed and where we raised our four children. When the lady of the house opened the door, I was flooded with the joy and loving exuberant recognition from the angels and elementals of the house and land.
As I finish writing this Blog Mano stepped forth and asked me to request that you go into your garden and speak with the angels and elementals of your land. Spend time with them, create a conversation, and use your creative imagination to let them speak with you through your thoughts.
Years ago a 6 year old girl explained how God could speak to her. She said, “God puts his thoughts in my mind and I think them.” This is similar to the way Mano speaks to me, and similar to the way your house and garden angels and elementals will speak to you. Mano just said, “It might be easier if you wrote the conversation by hand or on the computer,” which is the way he speaks to me when he has a lot to say. This is a sweet and fascinating Path. Remember that old TV commercial, “Try it, you will like it.”
